Psychological Health & Safety at Work
and
Annual General Meeting of ADR Atlantic Institute
Tuesday June 6, 2023 – 6:00pm – Via ZOOM Video Conferencing
Psychological Health & Safety at Work (6PM - 7:30PM ATLANTIC)
ADR Atlantic Institute offers this virtual
professional development workshop to ADR practitioners, Executive
Directors, Community Leaders, Human Resources Professionals, Managers,
Supervisors, and Union Representatives. This workshop will provide
learning for confident discussions about psychological health and
safety, psychological safety and mental health and the risk factors that
are influencing a healthy, thriving work environment.
OVERVIEW OF THE WORKSHOP
The
evidence-based research is strong and clear. Experiences of workplace
inclusion, civility, dignity, mutual respect, trust, connection,
collaboration and belonging have a significant influence on our mental
health and well-being.
Today’s Canadian and global mental health
statistics and the factors that have influence make a strong case for
looking at work conditions, the way workplaces are designed, and
workloads are managed. Our workshop leader, Kim MacDonald, will share
some of the changes influencing the expansion of Occupational health and
safety legislation and regulation beyond physical safety to include
psychological health and safety. With new guidelines now in 30
countries, including the Canadian Standard for Workplace Psychological
Health & Safety, and the United Nations International Labour
Organization and the World Health Organization leading global wake-up
calls for change, early adopters are asking questions about legal
minimums and starting to take action.
In the session we will
also explore the relationships and benefits of accurate understandings
between mental health and psychological health and safety, workplace
hazards, stressors and risk factors to health, productivity, motivation
and engagement and how to mitigate harms. We will discuss work-related
risk factors and apply what we learn to a real life case.
Following the workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Name 3 benefits of prioritizing a mentally healthy workplace.
2.
Describe 2 global developments that are both responding to and driving
the urgency for workplace change regarding employee mental health.
3.
Define the 3 types of stress and how work-related stressors are
experienced at work through a psychological health and safety lens.
4.
Understand the unique role and influence of managers/leaders on
employee mental health, workplace psychological health, psychological
safety and emotional wellbeing.
5. Define health-oriented leadership.
6. Name 3 leader behaviours that are associated with positive mental health outcomes at work.
